Dear Doctor,
I have recently moved into the village
and I thought I would write to introduce myself, since I will shortly become
your favourite patient. My name is Derek Humples and I am 53 years of age. I
live in the old post office with my mother.
I used to live in Brighton but my
mother wanted to move because of the all the noisy young men in bright clothes.
My doctor in Brighton was called Dr Gibson. Do you know him? He used to like me a
lot. I always visited him first thing on a Monday morning, and he always tried
to put me at my ease. “There really is nothing wrong with you, Derek”, he used
to say, and I found it very reassuring to hear that every week.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing you
soon. Today is Thursday so I will see you in four days time when I come in for
my first appointment. I can tell you now that my chest is hurting quite a lot
at the moment, and my tongue looks a funny colour. This will give you the
chance to think about what might be wrong with me over the weekend. Perhaps you
will find some information about my condition on the Internet. That was how I
found out I had the Menopause.
I will deliver this letter by hand to
the surgery reception, because if I put it in The Post Box it might not get to
you in time.
See you soon,
Derek Humples
